Solar Foods, from Helsinki, ferments the single microorganism behind Solein using gas and renewable electricity instead of farmland. Its first factory in Finland started operating in 2024, and in June 2026 Business Finland committed EUR 77.8 million in grant and loan financing towards Factory 02, which is planned to raise capacity from 160 to 6,400 tonnes a year.
